Where children come first

Text Box: Little Stars Childcare

Here are some idea’s of activities I use to build children’s self-Esteem and confidence in early years.

All this activities can be amended to suit each individuals age and stage of development.

· Message in a bottle —With a clue I’m near the swing in the garden.

When the child finds what the clue was asking we then discuss what we found and how we felt and draw pictures of the item

· Toy Microphone — Use the toy to play an “X factor” style game, pretend interviews and acting.

· Bag of numbers—Child chooses a number out of a bag.

With this number e.g. 4 the child then paints a number 4, finds 4 objects, counts to 4, spells the number 4 or decorates the number 4.

· Coloured boxes—Finds objects that matches the colour of the box and paints pictures using that colour.

· Foam dice—Used with numbers, colours or shapes to play games and discuss findings.

Tell me and I will forget

Everyone can’t do everything

but

Everyone can do something

· Threading—Threading large beads on to pipe cleaners to make jewellery to take home

· King or Queen day—Each day a child is king or queen. On this day that child has first choice for activities, songs, and stories.  Each day we take it in turns.

· Seasonal hunt—Easter eggs, crackers, conkers. We use clues to find these items

· Life size drawings— Peers draw round each other and we decorate our own bodies using different materials for our hair, clothes and face.

· Boxes—Filled with different objects to encourage counting and matching shapes or colours and pairs.

· What’s missing—A selection of 4 or more items on a tray, the children names the items, I cover and remove an object from the tray,  the children then have guess what is missing.

· Hunt— A familiar object is shown to the child and then hidden. As the child hunts for the object I use the drum to help the child find the item using the louder and softer technique.
